Facebook
Facebook was launched on February 4, 2004 and back then
it was called “thefacebook.com”. It was
founded by a 19-year-old Harvard sophomore Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook I now the biggest website in the
world. Facebook gets about $400 million
people a month who visit worldwide.
Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire who got his
fortune from creating a social network called Facebook. When Mark Zuckerberg was in elementary school
he was interested in programing. From a
small age he was involved in computer programing and he created a messenger for
communicating to from his house to his dental office and could be informed when
a new patient arrived. Mark Zuckerberg
is accused of stealing another person’s idea.
In fall of 2003 three Harvard seniors had this idea for a social network
for all Harvard students and alumni to be called HarvardConnections.com. Victor Gao a student at Harvard had been
getting paid by the seniors to do coding for the site and in the fall term
Victor begged off the project and basically suggested to the seniors that they
hire Harvard sophomore to replace him in his job. When he was at Harvard he was known for
creating Facemash a “Hot or Not Hot” program where you can judge if you thought
a student was hot or not which made him a bit of a celebrity on campus. He created Facemash by hacking into the
Harvard data base and stealing the profile pictures of students. He got caught after the Harvard server
crashed after over exceeding the visitors.
According to Nicholas Carlson of Business Insider he uncovered from
Silicon Alley Insider suggests that complaints against Zuckerberg are correct.
Facebook is a social network that is visited by 400
million people a month and 1 billion active users per-month. Facebook helps people connect to friends and
family around the world unlike before it was impossible. Although it can help people it can hurt
people too. There not much people
talking face to face unlike before when we had not social networks we all
talked to each other face to face.
However when Facebook was first started it was ment only for Ivy League
colleges like Harvard, Stamford, Yale, MIT, UPenn, Cornell, Dartmouth, BU, and
NYU and it was called Thefacebook.com.
Later on Facebook was available to all students in all colleges and all
they needed was an EDU web email address (Astrum People). Today you don’t have to be a student to open
a Facebook account. What attracted
students to Facebook was the fact that you could communicate with people you
are friends with from another state or country.
